The library

The library is a research library which houses roughly 50.000 volumes.

The library houses a rich collection of books within the specialised fields of the three sections. It is on four floors, affording scholars and visitors to each Section of the Institute easy access to its resources.
The library is ordered as follows: 

  • The Arnamagnæan Institute on the 2nd and 3rd floors. 
  • Name Research on the 4th floor.
  • Dialectology on the 5th floor.

There are reading rooms and work spaces on each floor, as well as separate manuscript reading room on the 2nd floor. Some desks are reserved for researchers who are staying at the institute for prolonged periods of time. If you wish you reserve a desk, please contact the librarian well in avance.
